Although Condola Rashad, breakout star from “Stick Fly”, didn’t take home a Tony Award on Sunday, look out for her to do great things. Success runs in her family, with parents Phylicia Rashad and Ahmad Rashad as well as aunt extradinaire Debbie Allen. Next she’ll take on the role of Shelby (originally played by Julia Roberts) in the all-Black production of “Steel Magnolias”. Stay tuned, this should be good.

Earlier this week we learned that Queen Latifah would lead all all Black cast in the remake of the tearjerker “Steel Magnolias” as M’Lynn Eaterton for Lifetime. The lineup is stellar including Broadway breakout star Condola Rashad as Shelbie (the part originally played by Julia Roberts), her mom Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodward and another young actress destined for greatness, Adepero Oduye. But from what I’ve read around, everyone is not so excited about this remake with some suggesting they’d rather see a sequel with the original cast.
