It seems like yesterday that Wendy Williams did a six week tryout in a few markets for her talk show. Folks were sure she wouldn’t make it but a strange thing happened: her lack of perfection made her relatable far beyond the scores of fans she had gained from her radio show. Well it’s three short years later and Wendy has made The Hollywood Reporter List of the 35 Most Powerful People in Media. And get this, the only other Black woman on the list is Robin Roberts. Surprisingly, Oprah didn’t make the cut (but then again her OWN empire is not only still finding its sea legs but losing millions).
But back to Wendy, her talk show has been renewed until 2014. Let’s put that in context Katie Couric doesn’t even know whether her daily chatfest, which will bow in September, will be on then. So whether you love her or hate her you’ve got to respect this sister’s hustle. And she’s got her hustle going on a few fronts. In addition to her accessories line on QVC, Wendy has got her eye on creating more entertainment content–namely producing movies for the big and small screen. But correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t one of her books already turned into a movie we never saw? Just checked and it was called “Queen of Media”. Oh but I am off subject again. I would venture a guess that now that Wendy is a major media force she’d opt to control her stories more than she did back when her biopic began filming. She’s also now authored (or co-authored) up to 5 books.
To me Wendy is a walking, talking example of of how far a dream and some determination can take you. And the other thing is that the most valuable thing you can do is be yourself.
