When it comes to Michael Jackson’s Estate, the care of his children, and the reason for Katherine Jackson’s abrupt departure from Los Angeles, each day brings another outrageous claim. And as things escalate this whole saga becomes more and more like a poorly written soap opera. The problem is this stuff is all too real. Let’s see if I can follow all that has transpired. There’s the letter that many of the Jackson siblings signed claiming financial mismanagement of Michael Jackson’s estate, then Katherine Jackson leaves for a “vacation” without telling her grandchildren, a missing persons claim is filed, Paris tweets for help, Katherine turns up in Arizona, the grandkids remain perplexed, Janet and Jermaine storm the gate, some slapping takes place, Tito rescinds his support of the aforementioned letter, Tito’s son, TJ, files for temporary custody of Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket, TJ wins custody and Katherine Jackson is hurt and says she’s coming home. I am sure I missed some of these ins and outs but I couldn’t make this up if I tried. Oh and let us not forget that Joe Jackson uses all these drama to resurface and decamp to the Encino home according to tmz.com.
I don’t know about you but I find all this troubling. First, because money seems to be the basis of all this drama. Now that in itself isn’t unusual. Who among us has not heard of a family fighting over an estate? The difference is these are the Jacksons, a beloved Black family. But just like the children of Martin Luther King who bickered in court over a myraid of things for years, the Jacksons are taking is to the streets—or should I say straight to the gutter— with this nonsense. I have no idea whether there has been mismanagement of the Estate, however, it seems that these children have been left to fend for themselves. Not too long ago, when it was announced that Paris was going to act in a project (something that her dad supposedly didn’t want her to do, according to Janet), I wondered if Grandma Katherine had given in to Paris’ wishes, but she may not even have been around for the discussion. Hmmm. The other issue is that the King of Pop’s will is what it is and in it he was not providing for everyone in his family. Of course they can contest that but that doesn’t seem to be the course of action they want to pursue. If I may venture a guess he may have thought it was time for Grown Folks to take care of themselves. The other odd thing is that all of this is allegedly going on while The Jackson 5 Tour is happening. It did cross my mind that this may have been concocted to build publicity for the tour but then the antics got so ridiculous that even the cynic in me knew it couldn’t be a stunt.
The bottom line is this mess needs to stop stat. I don’t care if Oprah or Dr. Phil steps in but somebody needs to help this family deal with their issues in private. We don’t need to see any more storming of the gates. We don’t need to see another Janet/Paris altercation, we don’t need to see Papa Joe gearing up to take advantage of all this mess, take control and try to start another singing group. What we need is for cooler heads to prevail. I know that’s hard for folks when their Momma is involved but folks we really, really need y’all to try. We’re collectively hurt and embarrassed for you.
