Bishop Eddie Long: Let This Be the End of the Story!

Ladies and gentleman, it’s time for Bishop Eddie Long to exit the spotlight and regroup for real! I, for you, don’t want to hear any more of this story. For the last few days he and his wife, Vanessa, have had our attention with the on-off-on again divorce flip flopping. Yesterday, The New York Times reported that the religious leader announced that he needed to spend time with his family and would not be in the pulpit for awhile. Yet he still going to provide “spiritual direction”. In other words, I am out but not really…

For Long, it’s not just the sexual abuse allegations and the possible dissolution of his marriage that are on the line. It’s also some talk about how he allegedly mislead some of his congregants on real estate and investment deals. Goodness. FYI, there was also a settlement regarding a $2 million deal gone bad too.

In some ways, Long reminds me of what bothered me about Herman Cain. Hubris on crack. You know that attitude that they’re untouchable and can do what they please. Until that is the chickens literally come home to roost. Okay that was a bad metaphor but you know what I mean. In the meantime, Vanessa Long may well change her mind yet again. That, of course, is her decision. And I do hope that truth, honesty and redemption can be part of this story. I am glad that those who were allegedly abused came forward, they needed to do that. But hear about Long anymore just for Long’s sake. I just can’t.
