Any black fashionphile alive should get thee to a theater when “Versaille ’73: American Runway Revolution hits your area. Okay, I haven’t made it to the IFC Center in NYC yet but I will before this film finishes its run at the art house theater. I am so looking forward to seeing director Deborah Draper’s documentary and hearing from Pat Cleveland, Bethann Hardison and so many other legendary ladies about the runway extravaganza that features the likes of Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy and the new kids of the time like Stephen Burrows,…
a href=”http://thatblackgirlsite.com/?attachment_id=10099″ rel=”attachment wp-att-10099″> Gabrielle Douglas’ form was nothing short of amazing as she shut down every idea that her nerves would be her undoing in the Team finals. Her gold medal moves are poetry in motion.<
The London paparazzi scene is kinda crazy but Rihanna seems to be taking it all in stride. I guess she’s used to having her photograph taken at every waking hour but this is on a whole ‘nother level. Clearly they can’t get enough.
Sheila E. still gives her heart and soul in her performances like her set last night in Bonn, Germany. And there is something about seeing a sister play drums with such skill that we have to give her mad props. From “Glamourous Life” to today she’s still giving us rhythms to move to.
Although Condola Rashad, breakout star from “Stick Fly”, didn’t take home a Tony Award on Sunday, look out for her to do great things. Success runs in her family, with parents Phylicia Rashad and Ahmad Rashad as well as aunt extradinaire Debbie Allen. Next she’ll take on the role of Shelby (originally played by Julia Roberts) in the all-Black production of “Steel Magnolias”. Stay tuned, this should be good.
“Rock of Ages” had it’s UK opening and Mary J. Blige went across the pond for the premiere. She plays club opener Justice Charlier in this adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name. Mary J. is in good company with the likes of Tom Cruise as a 80s era rocker, Stacee Jaxx, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Brand. In an interview a few months ago, Mary J. said one of the most fun areas of being in this film were the costumes. Although the reviews were spotty, I…
The diva herself stepped out at the FIFI Awards (the fragrance industry’s Oscars) last night showing off her sexy and svelte physique. She’s absolutely vibrant and it’s great to see her putting her health first. She’s definitely a winner.
I have total respect for Vanessa L. Williams. Not only is she the ultimate comeback story, she also knows how to successfully get her hustle on for work. No sooner than “Ugly Betty” announced its final bow did Vanessa get a lucrative gig on Wisteria Lane. She wasn’t the first sister on the block–Alfre Woodard has the distinction of doing one strange season–but she’s defintely going to be the last. There are only a few episodes left for “Desperate Housewives”. Here’s hoping her character, Renee Perry, gets her happily ever after and…
